    Ok friends,

this is a cliche I know, but I am new here and curious. You have crashed. You are completely alone (for now) on a desert island. Ok, that's a pretty dark picture already.Forget it.There is at least one other survivor,a very attractive lady there. You get to keep your pipe and ONLY one tobacco. You do not know how long you will remain there.Could be forever. Which tobacco would you choose. You get only one choice Gents. No a),b) c's !

Captain Black original. It has a great lean-to note and your lady friend will love it and in turn love you jungle style. Plus Captain Black is a fantastic everyday smoke. What more could you ask?

Anyone bringing along a latakia blend for the ride is definitely going to have his lady going native. Not a wise choice.

    Ennerdale.

Or maybe Star of the East, but campfires would be pretty common so I think the floral scent would be more valuable.

I would have a hell of a time choosing between FVF and BCF.

DI I have my choice of pipe? That would make the decision easier.

this is a hard one for me... I have quite a few that I truly enjoy and love. BUT if I had to choose one I suppose i'll go with the hardest one to find for me.

Hmm...toughie. I'd have to go with S.G.'s Full Virginia Flake (FVF). I figure since virginia's get better with age the thought of being stranded on an island indefinitely would be psychologically easier to cope with if I knew that over time my tobacco would get better and better. If I hit the 10 year mark on a deserted island I'd like to celebrate with a supremely aged virginia rather than a latakia-heavy blend that was past its prime. That would be depressing.

I would probably go with El Ricon de la Pipa #1, it's my daily smoke, never lets me down, it has turkish izmir, really high quality Va's (I'm pretty sure one of them is SG Kendal flake) burley, unsweetened cavendish and just a hint of lat. It never seems to get boring for me.

Although there are other tobaccos I actually like better, if I had to smoke one and only one forever -- FMOTT.

(I.e., I like Penzance better than FMOTT, but wouldn't want an unrelenting diet of it.)

@cfreud I dont know. I miss the days when it was pretty easy to get a hold of. It was a huge shock when I came back to pipe smoking in 2014 from a short break in 2010 that it was hard to get a hold of. It is crazy and there really is no reason except people buying it out when it comes up for sale to gouge others in resale. I have given away or traded 6 tins in the past few months and they were aged from 1999. Probably should not have done it as I only have about 6 oz in jars and one tin left.

mso489: I have been very curious to try this Semoi tabac. I know it is burley, grown in France and it comes in 3 types of cut. Coarse, normal and fine. I exchanged numerous email with them and they refused to send me some. I guess they expected me to order a few pounds of it.

Yeah, can we pick our island? Sounds like a Huxley novel.

I'll still probably go with Royal Yacht. Stubbornness as a character flaw, I guess!

Then again, being exiled to the coast of Ireland with a vat of Stirling Flake could be a lot of fun...

The location is not of great importance here, nor is the climate. It is about getting to the core of the matter, and choosing one blend that you could smoke forever if you had to and be satisfied with it. The island may be tropical or northern, the women can be blond, dark, tall..etc. whatever you wish for, but it would still not change the fact you will have to live with one tobacco only. So if it's Penzance you want, Penzance it is,and lots of it, but it is Penzance only, untill you are bored to death with it. If you can ever get bored of it..

What if you never had Penzance? Would someone be willing to "donate" a tin to see if I can live with it for the rest of my life??? Also. What is going on with the alcohol and food situation? If I'm on an island I better have the endless beer tap and buffet. Especially if I'm stuck with a Semois blend.

Trouble is I can fill the "single blend old codger" roll way too easily. Routine is almost as important as the experience itself.
5 Brothers, 1Q, heck, I'd probably be happy puffing on straight unflavored black cavendish, and then I'd try curing every part of every non-human thing on the island.

With unlimited beer and buffet, we are going to have to assign you a personal trainer. I think the question we failed to ask is what do you mean by "one tobacco"? Do you mean we can choose one blend of tobacco with unlimited supply or very large supply; or one tin of tobacco. If the answer is the latter, then my answer would be a 16-oz tin of G.L. Pease Westminster.

I assume that in this scenario I'm trying to get off said Island so I would pick Penzance so that I could hitch a ride with one of the stampeding hoards that would surely come looking for some. In the event that I was truly stranded I would have to pick something like P.S. Proper English or perhaps Baby's Bottom.

Well, the problem is that any blend will go dead on the palate if it's the only one smoked. And without pipe cleaners my one pipe is going to be a nasty bog. And what about matches or a lighter?

I'd have to build a raft and get the hell out of there.

Until then, I'd go with Flor de Cano Rothschilds.

You didn't say that it had to be pipe tobacco...

I'll go with good ol' Lane 1Q. I know there are a-plenty good blends out there, but for me this one is just like a good and steady friend.

Yes, woodsroad, that Gilligan was a very lucky man! (sigh...)

Sablebrush 52: Well, the problem is that any blend will go dead on the palate if it's the only one smoked.

I understand famous Danish pipe carver Tom Eltang (one example) smokes nothing but Orlik GS, and has for many many years (or always).
I don't even know what that Flor De cano Rothschild thing is but if it is a tobacco product, sure why not.

I would go with a Balkan, maybe Whiteknight, something that I could separate out same colored leaf to make different tasting smokes, like separate out all of the Virginia, or put more latakia in at times. Hey, if I'm stranded, I have time. And, if we are stranded without bathrooms or soap, the latakia will most likely be the best smelling thing about us.

And, I would need a good bamboo pipe, for that Gilligan's Island aesthetic.

Don't believe what you read. He's also put out a line of tobaccos, and none of them resemble Orlik GS. Smokers have found smoking them...challenging.

Excellent! Than I shall not be bored. It is an exquisite Cuban cigar and remains the best damned smoke, in any form, that I have enjoyed on the face of this big blue marble.

Only one? That's easy. And I know you will all agree.
Any VIRGINia will do quite nicely.
