Is it ok to keep the pipes in a case like this? A friend of mine said isn't good to keep the pipes inside it.

I use a hard sided pistol case when travelling. Canada Customs officers get very excited. :rofl:
If you are concerned about humidity, place a few of those desiccant packs in the case. I use those for everything from pipes to camera gear. Here is a link to Desiccant packs - Amazon

But...but...what's the point of having all those pipes if you can't see them??? I mean, a large part of the the joy of collecting is visual pleasure...the graceful lines, the flow, the curves, the everything. It's like having a hot woman but keeping her inside where she can't be seen. I say, let her OUT! Ahmm, I mean, let the pipes out!
I store my Peterson pipes on a rack, the cobs in a small basket and my other briars in their socks in a drawer. For travel I use a leather pipe roll or a hard sided Pelican case if I am carrying more than three.
