I just acquired a Carey Magic Inch, an older one I think but don't know how to date it. Looking for opinions on them as I'm not sure if I'm going keep it or pass it along.

I had one that I wound up trading off, it seemed to be a good pipe tho I never liked the bit..kinda like a grabow

The most important things in life are good friends and a good bullpen...not necessarily in that order

I'd toss it in the wood stove. Sorry, not a fan.

I had a few, over the years and couldn't warm up to them. Either traded them off or gave them away.

If at first you don't succeed, have another bowl.

I have one that I "inherited" from a gentleman who was my boss early in my working career. He purchased it about a week before he died unexpectedly. It was in his desk when I cleaned it out, and I gave it to his widow, along with the rest of his personal effects...affects....stuff. She smiled when she saw it and handed it back to me, saying Paul had always talked about how he and I would share tobacco at work and thought I might like to have it. It was unsmoked and I kept it as a reminder of those days.

I still have it, and smoke it from time to time, more from nostalgia than any thing else. I long ago stopped using the paper sleeve filter and taped over the draw holes. It's decent smoker, but not one of my favorites, except as a reminder of Paul.

My experience is that the London Made Patent pipes are pretty nice wood. The Grecian briar and forward I was never impressed with. Take it all with a grain of salt, the first thing I ever did to a MI was remove the paper tube and cover the slots with electrical tape......hey, it works for me.

More to your question, Greg, if it says "London" and has a patent number on it, I feel it's worth a try. If it says "Grecian Briar", or anything else - not so much.
