I picked this Dunhill Root Briar up for thirty five dollars on Ebay because of the small hole in the bottom of the bowl. I will fill the hole with briar dust mixed with glue, then add layers of Pipe Mud until it is level with the Draft hole.
Although there may appear to be an S in front of the number 1281 I do not think this is the case and believe it to just be the grain. There is clearly an underlined 18 after the word ENGLAND.
Any help dating would be greatly appreciated and I will follow up with photos of the restored pipe.
You may have seen some of my pipes on Ebay under "Blackriverwoodcrafters"and this is my first Dunhill and man I am looking forward to giving this baby a new life.
Thanks for any help.
Jack
