I've read on a number of sites about pipe repairs but I haven't seen much when it comes to repairing horn. Can a cracked mortise made of horn be repaired? Are we talking super glue and some sort of bone powder for the fix? If so, matching colours would be tricky in my mind.
Thanks

I assume the brass insert was a repair with your pipe? I can't say if this one is all horn; I assume it is. I'm looking at this pipe but I wasn't sure how much effort would be involved in a repair.

No the Savinelli's brass insert is definitely original. I have a David Iafisco pipe with a similar reinforcement. A nice touch. It appears as a brass ring when looking at the mortise. I would share a photo, but am traveling.

Interesting. I assumed it was a repair as I have had a cracked briar shank repaired with a brass insert, and the crack filled with briar dust mixed with supper glue. You would never know the shank had ever been repaired to look at it.
