Another member on the forum and I bought out an estate lot and we ended with 53 pipes from this carver. These are some of the most bizarre looking pipes Ive ever seen. I could find next to no information on this carver, other than that he is from the Midwest. The gentleman (Paul) who was selling the pipes was obsessed with Mock's Freehands. Paul told us this guy was killed by a hitch hiker and pretty much faded from the pipe community's memory. Somehow Paul ended up with several of Mock's pipes. Not sure the death is a true story but would love to hear from anyone who knows about Mock or owns one of his pipes. I will include a few pics from the collection. He seemed to have a theme to many of his pipes, several of them resemble animals. The huge pipe was titled "The Bridge". and it is hands down 3 x the size of the largest pipe I've ever seen.

Woodsroad: haha, I was told that one was an alligator. I thought it was pretty clever how he made the stem into a tail. However all i can see is the dog now. We are planning on selling several of them but haven't decided on exactly how we are going to do it. There are several that don't appear to be smoked. Your link is not working for me.

I've seen a few of his pipes around over the years. I think I remember reading an article about Don in PCI magazine. 8O

update:
I found a 1984 article on Don mock from Pipe Foundations. Figured I'd post the pictures on here. If you look closely you can tell that all the pictures I posted earlier were featured in the article.

The following is sincere, directed as being highly complimentary.
Mock's style of pipe making reminds me of some African Tribal Art pieces that I've seen in museums and in publication. They have an earthy, totally connected to the natural world look about them. I'd be proud to own one and you guys have scored big time IMHO.
