Hi all, I'm new to this forum and fairly new to the pipe world. Ive owned a few pipes before that my grandfather passed down to me.
I'm looking for Gourd Calabash as my next pipe..Would this be a wise choice? I have found one on Meerschaum store. . At this link: http://www.meerschaumstore.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CA101
Has anyone purchased anything from Meerschaum store or does anyone know about this site?

Thanks, any help is appreciated.

If estate pipes aren't a problem for you, they can be had much cheaper on EBay. Gourd calabash pipes are generally great pipes and offer a nice smoking experience.

Thanks, I will keep you guys posted. Yea I have been looking around on Ebay but to be honest im rather keen on a new pipe. I read that they are very nice pipes and Im looking for a cool dry smoking pipe, which seems to fit its character. Do you guys know of any other sites I could possibly check out to order a calabsh from?

Women love to spend time when buying a shoe

I must have been born without the shoe-love gene ... my criteria are "does it fit? Is it comfortable? Will it last so I don't have to bother with shopping/hunting again for a while?"
Pipes require much more attention and research. Don't get me started on pipe tobacco ...
Yavuz, you find some of the best pipe-porn.

In that case, I heartily recommend Hershey's Special Dark if you have not tried it yet. When we visited the Hershey factory in Pennsylvania, I got to buy a couple big 1-lb bars.
Chocolate is another subject very near-and-dear to my heart.
Speaking of picking out a pipe, my son's car repairs cost less than I expected, so look for an email from me.

You are quite right Yavuz, Im really enjoying the search for my next pipe. Haha you have a interesting way of putting things. . lol.
I Wanted to ask, would a meerschaum Calabash smoke the same way as a gourd calabash? Also are there any other choices of meerschaum pipes that have a cool and dry smoke to them?

The gourd calabashes are a bit pricey, but consider that you're getting a pipe that you can smoke almost continuously.

I mean that from both the tongue and the pipe's point of view. That drastically reduces the need for a large rotation

of briars. In my experience, don't buy the largest one you see. Aside from looking rather ostentatious they can give

the jaw a workout if you must go hands free for a moment.

Ja, that's good advice. I was wondering about which size would be most suitable. I know its all to do with preference but as you say it might be to heavy when going free handed.
Im used to a fairly light weight pipe..I was smoking a Keyser. Im looking at a large Strambach Calabash, which might be on the heavy side.

I wouldn't get anything but a gourd pipe. Some of the imitation gourd and wooden body pipes I've

seen are terrible, and I'll bet won't last long or absorb moisture. For the bowl, block meerschaum,

although most makers use pressed meerschaum powder. Take your time and research. Save up

some bucks and get a good pipe when it comes to a calabash.

Yea, I thought that if I buy a Calabash..I would rather go for one made from Gourd oppose to Mahogany and other. From what I hear Mahogany is an oily wood and maybe not ideal for the calabash. Thanks, for the advice mate.

Hey don't be hatin on us fashion forward guys lol.
As for gourd calabash pipes, never been too keen on them. For me it's the aesthetics and the fact that society all equates them to Sherlock Holmes which is incorrect because that style of pipe was never mentioned in the stories as being owned by Holmes.

Hey stoner, that looks like a neat pipe you got yourself. Good stuff!
Anyway I wanted to let you guys know that I've been trying to deal with http://radicapipes.ecrater.com/, where I am looking at a Strambach Calabash. They are very difficult to deal with though (in my opinion) Because, It takes them forever to respond to inquiries as well as the fact that I had to keep emailing them to get a Response! I've heard of some other costumers reporting the same problems with them. They have some nice pipes shown on their website, but good luck trying to purchase something from them. I would rather stay clear from Radica pipes (again in my opinion) Very poor communication and business from their side of things. I have decided to deal with another website who sells Strambach pipes.
Best regards,
Colin.

This is a BC that set me back $225. Genuine Calabash gourd with block meerschaum bowl and church warden stem. Smokes like a dream and, since I save up and buy my pipes cash, well worth waiting for.
