Since good briar seems harder and harder to find these days, I figured I'd try one of the alternatives coming on the market, especially from eastern Europe.

So, with no great expectations, I ordered (for $18!) an oak pipe made by B&B of Poland (the model I got is the 105D, a bent pot.)

To my great surprise, it's a great smoking pipe - easy draw (despite the filter so common in European pipes), even burn, and great taste. Of course, I'm very wary of burnout, but, so far, so good. You can see these listed on Ebay.

This Polish pipe being "other than briar" made me think of the "The Pipe" I got from my borther at Christmas.

I only tried it once since I got it, and it smoked quite well. The only issue is that it can burn hot so extra slow sipping is required.

Of course, since The Pipe's bowl is made of the same stuff NASA used for the noses on space shuttles, there is absolutely zero chance of burning out the bowl on The Pipe.

Ive seen these pipes and have been thinking about picking one up. I saw one or two that were made of acacia wood, but not having much knowledge of wood Im still unsure. The sellers name is house of pipe I believe. How is the craftsmanship on yours?

Don't forget Pear wood pipes. Mr Brog makes some very nice pipes at cheap prices, I have two of his pipes and they smoke great!
