Oh dear. I hope the buyer will have funds to do a banquet or elaborate dinner party to sip the product. I think a $300 single malt might suffice for most.

I'm perfectly happy with my malts that sell for anywhere between $35 (Macallan 12) and $75 (Glenlivet 18) or some of my great Four Roses Single Batch or any one of my Single Batch Bourbons ($35-85).
BUT, I applaud the purchaser(s) and say Sláinte!!!

I wonder what occasion would be found to open and drink such a bottle.
Any occasion where you wake up for another day. Living is very capricious. I personally don't wait for "special occasions". One never knows when life is snuffed out. Yes, its already been a long week.

For anyone that want's the US dollar price, that's about $1,102,726.48....Ooof, that's a pricey bottle of scotch.
Some site says that it's a 70cl bottle and that within a 70cl bottle you could get about 28-25ml shots out of it. That would make it roughly $39,383.09 per shot.....or....£30,285.71 per shot....whew.

Not surprised it's a Macallan. They always seem to fetch big prices in auction.

I doubt I could afford to sniff the cork let alone taste any of the contents.

I like that attitude. The only thing I have that is valuable that I haven't used is a bag of 20+year old Penzance. Don't know if I want to smoke it or sell it. But when that decision comes, I won't wait for some event.

Thé problem is , it’s no longer a bottle of scotch , it is now an objet d’art .
Which is why I much prefer my , expensive to me , 100 dollar bottle of scotch , since I can proceed with the original plan , to drink it.
I have been to fine whisky shows and sampled the best 25 year old , rare 18s and more , yet I still prefer the 10 over the better ones
Woe is me

You could buy something like 54,000 bottles of Famous Grouse for £848,000 which would probably last me a whole year. 8O

That's like 140+ bottles a day!
The trick is not sleeping (okay passing out but let us not split hairs). Being awake 20 hours a day means I only need to drink 7 bottles per hour.

Imagine dropping the case on the way to the car
I read the story of a guy who dropped a new bottle of The Balvenie Tun 1509 in his driveway. Ok, ya, so it's only a $400 bottle, but still! He did keep the shattered bottom half of the now empty bottle.

This. And a status symbol. Salud to those who can afford it.
Without the artist's work the bottle would be worth only a fraction of that. Maybe 1/10 to 1/8?
Macallan 1940 is $36,500.00/bottle and Macallan 65 year Lalique is $55,000.00/bottle. (Just discovered Macallan 1989 is $13,500.00/bottle but I managed to snag a 1oz sample bottle for $48 several years ago.)
