Borax?

Merry Christmas!! I recieved many pipes this year, including estates. I, as usual, have a question for yiu experienced cleaners. Is it OK to use borax instead of oxy clean to deoxidize stems? I want to clean up some of my presents.
I hope you all got lots of goodies and had a happy holiday!

No expert on chemicals but it seems to me that as long as you rinse the stem completely it should be fine...assuming it works as a cleaner. A short bleach soak works. Rinse,rinse, rinse is my advise.

Borax should be okay (it is one of the components in OxyClean)... But, as Mike has pointed out, rinse, rinse, rinse!!
I would follow up with plenty of q-tips and a high proof alcohol (I use Everclear or a really cheap Vodka).
And, take your time, go thru as many q-tips and pipe-cleaners as it takes. The reward is worth the work.
