I like to pair blends with what I listen to. Some blends just feel like certain pieces of music.
For example:
Mixture 79 = Britney Spears/Funkadelic mix

OJK = Slayer

Royal Yacht = Anton Bruckner, Furtwangler conducting

Irish Flake = Morrisey

Prince Albert = AC/DC
Any others?

Scotch (or whiskey) and ODF go well with Son House, Fred McDowell, Lightnin' Hopkins etc.

Pipes and music are completely different for me. Now first things first... I'm a metal head, always have been, but it's not the only genre I listen to and enjoy. But metal doesn't go well with pipe smoking for me... the exception being maybe Blind Guardian's Nightfall On Middle Earth or something similar. Or perhaps some metal that's instrumental and not a sucker punch to the face like perhaps Metallica's Orion, which is more like a punch to the face you see coming but are too mesmerized by the beauty of the form of the punch thrown to duck.... and then you slowly pick yourself up off the floor, wipe the blood on your sleeve, wink and point with a smile at the guy that punched you and say, "Bro.... that was a beautiful punch! Thanks man!" And then you bro hug and buy each other a beer. Ok wait.... where am I going with this? Who cares. I'm listening to Orion now as I write this and it's going great with some Black Frigate!
But other than that, I typically find myself listening to celtic music, or some form of classical, or maybe some Ol' Blue Eyes... Frank Sinatra's music goes great with a pipe. Except the song, Forget Domani. For some reason that song really annoys me. I can listen to some country with a pipe, as long as it's not that really old school twangy stuff, but it's still got to be the right song by the right artist or it doesn't work for me.
Hip Hop...... Hip Hop should never be played while smoking a pipe. I believe that could have been the 11th Commandment. Thou shalt not EVER listen to Hip Hop whilst smoking a pipe meant for enjoying tobacco. While the 12 Commandment could well have been Thou shalt not Ever break commandment 11. But that's really just my opinion. If you enjoy your pipe with some Eminem, or go old school with a little Run DMC, more power to you.... ye breaker of commandments.
Oh... one more metal song I could listen to while smoking a pipe. Manowar's cover of the aria, Nesun Dorma is pipe smokable 8)

That Irish Flake with Morrissey is a pretty good one:), he is indeed a wee bit flaky/off the mark as a person, though I'm a big Smiths fan...

The OP (DM) must be from the U.K., where he's much better known than the North America.
I often smoke outdoors in parks or nature, so I don't often listen to music, but Celtic music sounds like a great tip! I'll give a shout out to Loreena McKennit, Canada's own Celtic wonder...

Deathmetal, I'll give those a listen. Doom Metal isn't a particular favorite subgenre of mine, but there are elements of it that might go well with some pipe smoking.
Elvishrunes... yes, Loreena McKennit is great for relaxing with a pipe.

I like that Skepticism, oppressive Doom funeral, hah love the new names metal comes up with. I'd smoke some Gaslight to that.

I love listening to metal while I smoke, it's the only time when wife/kids won't bother me, so either I'm playing and smoking or listening.

I tend to favour lat bombs while I'm listening to metal.

Havukruunu, Black metal

Mantar, two piece German metal

Despite it's earthy burley origins, I'd pair Tabac-Manil Semois with The Well Tempered Clavier, by Bach, usually performed on the harpsichord, for it's subtle and roving counterpoint of flavors.

I love a good harpsichord. Listening to this Ray Obiedo now. Interesting jazz/fusion type stuff. I am more of a Mahavishnu Orchestra or Ornette Coleman sort of dude, so it's good to broaden horizons.
However, yes, I do listen to The Smiths on occasion... there is a certain Morrisey mood. I have trouble with too much rock music however. I feel like I am in a loop.
But I enjoy doom metal with a pipe, as well as other varieties. Then again, one of my favorite activities is to cook up a storm in the kitchen while blasting Deicide, so it may be one of those lifestyle things.
And no, I'm not from the UK, but parts of it are quite lovely! Not to mention all the quality Gawith and other tobaccos. Just find me a small English village and a mountain of Royal Yacht and I'll be quite happy, prowling around looking for Elizabeth Bennet and Hercule Poirot...

With Irish Flake, simply because I lack any Austrian tobaccos.
