I am currently smoking Billy Budd by Cornell and Diehl. It is blended with some cigar leaf and I am not a complete cigar fan. I mean once in a while I enjoy a cigar and when I say once in a while, thats about every 2 months or so. When I smoke my pipe, I enjoy something along the lines of Cornell and Diehl Yale Mixture and Epiphany, G.L. Pease Westminster, and McClellands Old Dog. I currently have smoked one bowl of Billy Budd and I plan on smoking it more. Is this a blend that "grows" on you the more you smoke it? If I could have some input, I would greatly appreciate it.....

I dig this blend, from very first puff, sent me sail's into the wonderful world
of English blends and I never looked back. I would say smoke
a few more bowls or perhaps 2oz of it first before a sign-on/off IMO

I've never tried Billy Bud, but have always wanted to. I do really like Robert Lewis 123 which is also a cigar blend. I wonder if they're similar at all. I really enjoy both cigars and pipes and while (to me) RL 123 is nothing like a cigar it is something wonderful all on its own.

Billy Budd was my first smoke that was not an aromatic. Though I thought of it to be quite pungent for the first few bowls, it did start to grow on me. I know now that it was the latakia in the blend that kept me coming back for more. It is because of this blend that I am now a latakiaphile.

I liked it right off the bat - although - it is very stout. And the cigar pong factor (read strong cigar odor) is pretty high. Prepare to gargle and a change of clothing is recommended before you get near your loved ones or non - smoking friends.

I had an interesting experience with Billy Budd.

I love it when it's well-aged. I am not fond of it when it is new.

Bob Tate, our former Associate Editor, gave me about a half ounce along with a bunch of other tobaccos he had when we were at a show together. I had so many samples that I didn't get to this until it sat around for a year.

I smoked it and I loved it! I killed the stuff Bob gave me and then bought a new tin.

I popped the new tin, and whoa! It was a totally different experience. It was much stronger in flavor and in nicotine.

As I said ...I love it when it's well-aged. I am not fond of it when it is new.
