There's lots of great tobacco available to us all in the internet age, but I rarely see anyone comment on the price. One example is Penzance, who while many people love it, just as many scoff at the price making it not a good value.
What are your best bang for the buck tobaccos?
I have two to start the list:
McClelland 5100 is a great red virginia, even greater for the price.

Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake is a great VaPer, and when adjusted for price just might be my favorite tobacco of all.
What does everyone else love that is available at a low price per ounce?

I pay what the retailer asks and smoke what I like. No value at all in my book, I just sit back enjoy whatever and watch my wee purchase turn into smoke. Tobacco is not a big ticket item, not a necessity either, no need for me to seek value and satisfaction.

...in all seriousness, the answer is probably (1) a bulk (2) made in USA (3) with lots of Burley.
I recommend Old Joe Krantz, mainly because it puts the "performance" into price/performance.

+1 on what deathmetal wrote. I began to explore some of C&D's bulks and OJK as well as Billy Budd are my favorite but not exclusively smoked of their stuff.

They had a sale last month, and I bought two kinds of their blending burley (shoulda got 3) their Virginia flake, their Izmmir and some latakia. I've been enjoying my first couple of blending attempts with these, and also adding in some other stuff sometimes.

I've found that the taste improves after a few days or more, once the blend has been made.

Another mistake I made was the omission of perique.

I look at my 'stores' and think, damn, even with all this I really should augment.

TAD will abate for me once I've got a few more of these ingredients.

Bulk C&D Bayou Morning for me, I could smoke that stuff all day every day. Very reasonably priced at regular retail and was a great deal during the 15% off sale at smokingpipes last month.

New Minster, P&C 5lb price for #400/#403 comes out to $3.15/50 g. Use one of their 20% deals and it is $2.55/50 g...
They are both great out of the box (err bag), after a year in a jar, well, :)

If you can find bag tobacco that you find good quality and dependable, that's probably the best at the price. Pipesandcigars' Home and Hearth Midtown series of tub tobaccos, which also come in pouches to sample before you commit to a tub, are a great value. They have just ratcheted up the price a few bucks, but they are still well below most other tub tobacco and are higher quality in my opinion. These are blended to match Carter Hall, Prince Albert, Walnut, and others. There are three aromatics and one non-aromatic, Chestnut, which is a lovely American/English blend and my favorite. If you can catch bulk tobaccos of various brands on sale you can stock up for extra low prices. Since I smoke only a bowl or two a day, and skip some days when busy, I don't consider a tin or two as a huge expense, but if you smoke more than three or four bowls a day, you may well want to have at least some blends that are price-conscious, if you are on a budget.

Hence my post re New Minster. I smoke all day everyday...
I do smoke 8,9,10,11 dollar /50g tobaccos, but the majority is NewMinster...

For Virginia blends I'd say it's hard to beat Newminster no.400 Superior Navy Flake at $31/lb.
VaPer I'd say Stokkebye's Luxury Navy Flake at $31/lb. as well.
Aromatic you have to say Lane's 1Q at $28/lb.
Not too big into English/Balkan/Burley blends.

I also like to speak up for blending your own. Like the tobacconists of old, you can put together an entirely serviceable and often excellent blend for $2.50 an ounce or less if you are willing to buy the ingredients in bulk at one pound or greater amounts at a time (interestingly, this is why in the old days, pipesmokers tended to order one or two pounds at a time).
The basic recipes are something like this:
English: Virginia, optional Burley, Turkish and Latakia
Dutch/Norwegian: Virginia, Dark Fired, optional Burley, Turkish
Dark English: Virginia, Dark Fired, optional Perique
Va/Per: Virginia, optional Burley, Perique
Balkan: an English with balance shifted from Latakia to Turkish
Codger: Burley, Virginia, optional Perique, Turkish or Dark Fired
...those are the basics, if memory serves (IIRC/YMMV/TMTOWTDI/FWIW/YOLO).

Stonehaven and Penzance. As soon as you receive it from your online vendor it has quadrupled in value.

I agree with Warren, whatever I smoke regularly has become a good value for me. I don't smoke so much that I need to sweat the cost per ounce. I get 10 to 15 bowls per tin, depending on bowl size, so pipe smoking is a bargain compared to cigars anyway. I smoke a pipe to relax and enjoy the taste of the tobacco, I really give no thought to picking my blend by price.
