Hi all,
First I would like to say a big THANKS to all of you! I've searched around the internet for info on Smoking Pipes for a while and discovered this amazing Forum last Monday. I've found answers for most of my questions reading topics here and have finally decided to order my first Pipe.
But, after searching here and on the Internet I still have one main question.. Which brand should I get for my first time around? I understand is a matter of taste I therefore each person has preferences of their own, but since I never smoked before I am finding hard to decide on which should I get the first time.
I live in a small village 1 hour away from Munich and around here there is no Tobacco Stores so I have to order on Internet. I read some suggestions around but none of them are available on the online Shop I found that send the items to my city.
So, long story short..Can you advice me on which one of those should I get for a first time puff?

I dont smoke cigarettes and have smoked Cigars some times..I would be glad to smoke something not light.
Thanks in advance,
Regards

G

Welcome aboard and congrats on your first pipe :)
When you smoke a cigar, do you prefer the flavored sweet wrapper or do you enjoy it without any flavor? Knowing that will help in the recommendations.

WELCOME - to the forum and to the wonderful world of pipes! Personally (and as you mentioned each person has their own likes/dislikes) I would give the Peterson Nutty Cut a try. It is a light smoke that I tend to turn to first thing in the morning.
Another thing to look out for is any online retailer that sells 5g sample packs. The one I often use sell their most popular lines in sample packs (but is in the UK so not that useful for you). That way you can try several different blends and see what sorts of tobacco you like most.
Hope that helps and happy puffing

davidoff makes very high quality tobacco blends. you might try the red mixture and danish to start. eventually you may want to try several and see which components are most appealing to you. captain black is good to start with too.
i'm sure there are others on this forum who are much more knowledgeable on some of the other brands than me.

Going by the assumption you meant tobacco (couldn't make out for sure if you wanted to know about pipe too) I would recommend to get one from each of three categories if you're really going for it: an aromatic, an English blend with Latakia and a pure tobacco without orientals/Latakia, for example a VaPer (Virginia+Perique blend).
There are a ton of different aromatics and because they're all flavoured differently it's hard to say just one, but a very good one that is strongly aromatic is W.O. Larsen Signature: http://www.tabakpfeife24.de/Pfeifentabak/W-O-Larsen/WO-Larsen-Signature-100g-Dose.html

If you don't want to spend the extra money because it's only available in 100g tins you could get a few of the 10g pouches from Mac Baren to try out (though they'll only last a few smokes each). Mac Baren's 7 seas series is very good and not as strongly aromatic as the Larsen Signature. http://www.tabakpfeife24.de/Pfeifentabak/Mac-Baren/Mac-Baren-7-Seas-Regular-Blend-10g-Beutel.html and others you can find in the Mac Baren category.
I'm not very big on Latakia so maybe someone else can pitch in but Peterson Old Dublin and Dunhill Nightcap are both pretty good smokes: http://www.tabakpfeife24.de/Pfeifentabak/Peterson/Peterson-Old-Dublin-50g-Dose.html http://www.tabakpfeife24.de/Pfeifentabak/Dunhill/Dunhill-Nightcap-50g-Dose.html
For a VaPer I think many will agree that the De Luxe Navy Rolls are quite quintessential with the added benefit of allowing you to try out smoking coins and not just mixtures: http://www.tabakpfeife24.de/Pfeifentabak/Dunhill/Dunhill-De-Luxe-Navy-Rolls-50g-Dose.html
If you want to buy just one I would personally get a VaPer, it's not as strong in taste as Latakia blends and is pure pipe tobacco and not with added flavouring like aromatics. The downside is that it requires more technique than aromatics since those are generally much more forgiving.

Since you are a cigar smoker, I would recommend an English-style blend. My go-to blend in that category is Peterson's Old Dublin.

Hello gsandrini and I hope you enjoy this forum and your new hobby. The sample pack is a good idea. It allows you to get a feel for your pallet to. Since you are new to smoking you may want to keep the nicotine kick low. I would recommend the W.O.Larsen "Signature".
Happy puffing.
