I own 2 bamboo pipes

One a gifted Estate; the other a new bamboo shanked pipe. The estate has nothing but sweet delicious broken in taste. On the new I taste the bamboo for sure. I am simply wondering if the bamboo is similar to a cob. After "x" amount of bowls will I no longer taste the bamboo? Or was something possibly missed in the construction?

On any new pipe, there can be traces of drilling or sanding dust present inside the shank and bit. It's usually always a good idea to give the pipe a quick scrubbing out with your preferred distilled spirit
I seriously doubt that you're getting any bamboo flavor from the shank, coming from tobacco burning in the briar bowl. The shank in most cases is simply too far from the burning embers to affect the flavor, unless you have a pipe similar to a cob, where the shank protrudes inside the bowl.
