I don't chase hard to find, or out of production tobacco. I would like to pick up a sealed key turn tin of edgeworth, and I look at the tins section of ebay just in case something comes up.
Last week I spotted two tins above. Virginian No. 10. So I think....."Listing says used, so they have surely been open, probably dried out." I looked at the pics, tobacco probably dried out, but it doesn't look to bad. It doesnt SAY its dried out. Maybe , just maybe they opened to show the tobacco? I don't have much time to think about this, or someone else is going to take the chance, 17 shipped, I'm doing it!"
So I waited for the tins to get here and they roll in today. I opened the box and picked the first one. Pry the lid of with a penny. I can smell some tobacco smell. Looks okay, and touch the top. Cruchy tobacco, no moisture. I dig my finger in deeper and twirl it around just as dry through out. Maybe I can mix it with something since it still has some smell and it isnt dust.
I grab the second, pry the lid off. Man the paper is discolored worse than the last. A little rust on the inside of the tin. Crap. There go my 17 bucks. I stick my finger in a and solid and a bit moist. I open the paper and i realize the strong aroma of tobacco surrounding me. THIS tin is still in perfect condition! I stole this at $17.
I pull up document I never thought I would ever use about dating Balkan Sobranie product I never thought I would use. Lets see.... No 10 discontinued in 1994, whoa 20 years old.

Let us know how the cigar leaf comes through!
Hope you get good enjoyment,

it is quite thrilling to find such stuff...
...back when I first started looking at the older vintage baccies, I got really really lucky and scored an old cutter top of #10 for only $20 --- I ended up selling it because at the time I despised Latakia and thought for sure there was probably some in there, I didn't really know much back then LOL
Anyway, I ended up selling the tin and cleared a $100 profit, which made me feel good and which I used toward buying more baccy! 8)

Misterlowercase, it sounds like you scored to me. There is not a leaf to me worth $100. You were up $100 for a good tobacco vs ?? quality. Pretty smart.
