BALKAN SOBRANIE 759 50 gram from the 80's, really $200? Seems like a BS bid war.

    Not at all.

How many of those tins are left in the world? I think it's safe to say not very many. When in showbiz, I knew people who left a $200 tip for a $50 lunch bill. It was not at all uncommon.

As J.P. Morgan said, "if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it."

So true, but I think I'd rather cellar a few pounds of BBF or FVF...or even the unthinkable -- Buy a great pipe!

Totally with you Craig. It's all about one's perceived value.

Too much good stuff out there. Better to spread one's cash around.

I think it is a reasonable price if you have the income to back it up...

I wouldn't think twice if I could afford it.

Want to know what's crazy? People who pay hundreds of dollars for 20 year old pouches of the Original Balkan Sobranie smoking mixture which (supposedly) was already a shadow of its former self when it was discontinued.

So now people just go into all out bidding wars over a dried out packet of substandard leaves just so that they can drink in the Sobranie legend!

Now, if I tripped over a sealed tin circa 1975-1980 in an antique shop or flea market I would be on it in an instant...
