Received a shipment today that included a 50g tin of Balkan Sasieni. On the back there appears to be the year 1986 in the upper right. Is this the date this tin of tobacco was sealed? I'd be surprised if this is that old! I couldn't find anything online about dating a tin of this.

I'm not sure but I would date it as October 07, 2017. Maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks! I read the post about dating Dunhill tins, but missed the Orlik.

I wouldn't turn down a 32 year old Balkan for the price of a fresh one once in a while!
With that said, I think that would be waiting far too long for a latakia blend.
I have a sealed tin of Balkan Sasieni that is about 8 years old and I am wondering if it has passed its prime.

Yes, I'm sure the Orientals and Virginias are coming along nicely. I used to love the pungence of newer latakia tins, though, so I was wondering if I had let it mature for too long. I am very much a novice with older latakia blends.
Not that it has anything to do with Balkan Sasieni, but I've still got some nice McClelland Syrian offerings also that should be an enjoyable learning experience whenever I get around to cracking them!
