From an RJ Reynolds internal memo, dated 1990:
DAMAGED TOBACCOS
Status

Six containers of K10X KY tobacco, slightly damaged with hydraulic

fluid, were inspected at Brook Cove. The contaminated material was removed

and the tobacco okayed for usage in the burley portion of G13-23.
Significance

The passage of these tobaccos through the G13 freon expansion bath will ensure

than any possible residual contamination will be removed and only good tobacco

will reach the consumer.

Maybe they invoked the 5 second rule ? Theres no mention of how long the tobacco was actually touching hydraulic fluid. Besides, clean it with Freon, it's all good.

Not surprised they would do that really. Those several containers could have had many tons of tobacco in them and besides a few molecules of hydraulic fluid in a cigarette might well constitute the least harmful additive.
