An MM hardwood? If so I usually pack mine like I do any other pipe.
I have heard others mention that they make a pipe cement or putty out of cigar ash and a minute amount of water. They pack the putty into the bottom of the bowl until it is even with the hole. Let the stuff harden and then puff away!
+1 Flyguy. There's two ways to fix it IMO. One is Pipe Mud, made with cigar ash. The other is using Bradley's (Old Cajun) way, using some fireplace mortar. Either way, you basically use either substance to "raise" the base/interior heel of the pipe bowl to the level of the air hole.
Both methods are delineated in previous threads on this forum using search here, or an external search engine, to locate them.
Best of luck to you!
