I live in Florida, a state burdened by a "clean indoor air act". They banned smoking, EVERYWHERE except a few bars where food isn't served (and casinos, of course)---even in private clubs! So, are there any Free States left where you can smoke at work, or are they all Ban States? How about states (or countries for some of the more far-flung brothers) where you can at least smoke in a bar, restaurant or a private club?

Here in the States I would have to say no, but I know in Germany that you can still find bars and restaurants that you can smoke in. The Bars are classfied as smoking bars and there are special regulations for them as to what they may serve as foods, main meals are not allowed, but as my former regular bar owner said classify what is a main meal. As for the restaurants they must have a completly seperate smoking room with seperate ventilation and such. Germany is a larger smoking community, the ban has not hit so hard there because mor people per.. smoke. They did try the ban in bars until revenue went in the toilette and the bar owners revolted, it was great.

I'm in Florida too and the "good ol' days" of smoking are long gone.

I'm curious to hear about other locations.

Maybe not in the U.S.

Here in the states there are city ordinances, county ordinances and then state restrictions.

Chances are that even if a state permits smoking in certain workplace situations, local ordinances will prohibit it.

I guess if you worked outdoors, you could smoke on the job, or maybe in a small office or shop, out in the country or in a small town.

Beyond that, I'm not aware of anywhere you could smoke at work.

Unless, of course, you worked from home -- then you could puff away to your heart's content.

Not here in the UK either. A smoking ban was introduced recently that made it illegal to smoke anywhere where people may work. So that's bars, clubs, shops, train stations etc etc.
The crazy thing here is that as it is a ban on where people work technically you can't smoke in your house if you work from home. So even if your self employed and have an office in your own home, you can't smoke in there as it's a place of work. The company i work for had to issue everyone that has a company car with no smoking signs as again, they are places of work!

Hailing from the UK, I can second everything julesholling says. Moreover, if someone comes into your home to do some work for you, you can't smoke because for the duration of their stay your home is their workplace.

Here in Jacksonville atleast from what I can see none of those bands are being put into effect. We have a ton of bars here that you can still smoke in, a lot of jobs that still allow smoking on the grounds, heck even our local hospital at the beach has a smoking section a little ways from the building.

The short answer is no.
Though back at Pizza Hut I'd smoke in the bar all the time. Nobody but the RGM cared, and he didn't care enough to be at work longer than come in, clock in, leave, 11 hours later come back and clock out. I kid you not, the only time I ever saw him at work longer than 45min he was out back arguing with his girlfriend on the phone for almost 3 hours. And I worked every single day, sometimes doubles. I should of seen him working an actual shift at -some- point if he was doing it.

In Nevada you can at least smoke in some parts of casinos...and in Oregon you can smoke in *some* smoke shops. Not all, but some.

Here's a very brief excerpt from my Richmond Pipe Show 2010 Report ...
If you're ever in the Richmond area and want some good food in a sports bar atmosphere where you can smoke, check out Bailey's Pub & Grille.

I work in North and South Carolina. At work in NC i can go outside to a designated smoking area. In SC i have to get in my car and leave the property. It has only been a couple of years in this part of the country that we can not smoke in doors at public places. I was in St. Louise the early part of December and was pleased to walk into an Irish pub for dinner and see a cigar smoker at the bar. For some reason it smelled wonderful!! :D

Ohio has banned smoking in any sort of place, but there are a few Bars and Coffee Houses that let you smoke inside after some time at night.
Its pretty fun actually, they'll hand you an ashtray and say, remember, you can't smoke inside here now.

I live in GA and the bar I work in, you can smoke in. The city I work in permits it as long as the establishment is 18 and up.

What little I get coming in is from self employment. I keep firing me but then have to hire me back.

Here in Vegas, you can still light up at the casinos without too much disturbance. The antis are trying to get their long arm into many places here. There are some that have non smoking areas to cater to the antis.

When I was still gainfully employed, there wasn't a state where I couldn't smoke at work. 'Twas one of the advantages of being a truck driver. :?
