Hi All,
Does anyone know anything about this Stanwell shape? It is from the reg. no. era, and is clearly marked as "38" but in looking at the only Stanwell 38 shapes I can find it looks like neither. Found some pics of a shape 39 that is somewhat similar but clearly different, especially the stem. Read pipedia and a couple other entries word for word and can't find this sucker. Nomenclature under the reg. no. (tough to see in pic, but clear) reads "Hand Made" over "In Denmark."
Thanks.....

I don't know it as a Stawell shape, but I've seen the shape described as a scoop. This may not have been how Stawell described it however.

The stem does not look like the original, but here is that version of shape 38,

Interesting! Quite elaborate (and stanwell-ish) for a replacement stem, but that makes a lot of sense. I was curious about that, given that it doesn't line up with the shank end and you can't see an S anywhere in the pics. So unlike the original stem. Wondering if someone just found one with a tenon that fit and said "F**k it". Curious. Thanks!

'Looks pretty good for a randomly found stem, which I suspect it is. Anyone agree or have another idea on calling this a scoop shape?

Looks like there are two versions of 38, Dave's link and your example are 38b and I bet there is another example out there with a different style, 38.

From what I found in my initial search this is correct, I found a shape chart that had a 38 that was totally different, If I remember right it was a straight pipe in a pretty classic shape, a lovat or something like that, maybe with a saddle stem?
