Came across this Trypis at a local Antique store yesterday. Its a shape I've never seen and onlt flaw is a very small crack on the shank. Pretty cool little pipe for $10 bucks.

Nice find! Once it gets cleaned up I'm sure it will be a good little burner for you. I think a band over the crack would add to the look of the pipe.

Never though of a band to cover the crack! Great idea but making a band is out of my skill set for now. Hmm...

That's a nice find, I really enjoy my Trypsis, a lot of pipe shops do repair work such as adding a band, perhaps someone here can post a shop they have used that does this. I used the Owl Shop in Worcester MA years ago but don't know if they do repairs any longer as that was over 40 years ago.

Blue to me at least that's a hell of a find after you clean it up and find you really enjoy the smoking characteristics of that bad boy give me a shout if you want more trypis pipes lol. Enjoy it I will admit I'm a bit jealous of the find but the fact your going through the trouble of restoring it makes me feel good about it cheers and merry Christmas.

Very nice indeed. It's kind of a tomato/volcano combo... a volmato? Anyway, getting into Trypis pipes myself and he seems to have made every shape under the sun. In addition to a sweet little Dublin I just picked up from Smokeybear, I recently picked up 12 NOS Trypis pipes from a guy in SW Ontario. Shapes in that lot cover everything from a tulip, to an acorn, to a fairly traditional bent billiard, plus a pair of pokers. Only thing consistent is the solid stem work, dead on drilling and the partial rustication. Will have some of those for sale myself in the New Year.

Blue I do not have a Trypis pipe but that combo shape and unique stem is a great find. Bands don't cost much and I agree it would add to the beauty of an already good looking pipe.

Already planning to send it back to Trypis for restoration. I don't think anyone could do better then the man who made it in the first place. They do a full restoration for $30 and I'm going to ask about a band.
