Here's a few I picked up at the antique store today. Man, do they need some work!

Also, if anybody has any info, or guesses for that matter on these pipes, I'd sure love to hear it!

This Bulldog is really, really gunked up, but definitely savable. It's so gunked, the only thing I can make out on it is the tail end of a word ending in "ING".

Next up is this Meer Billiard. It's dirty, but in decent shape. There's no markings on the pipe itself, but the case reads "Made In Austria" on the outside.

Next is this little Playboy pipe. This is the one I'm excited about! It's a really nice shape, looks very well built, and has a decent blast on it. It's also very light.

I also weighed them this time before restoring them, just to see how much the weight changes during the clean up.
Meer = 40gr.

Playboy = 30gr.

Bulldog = 34-35gr. (scale kept changing back and forth)

Thanks guys!
@ghost. I' hoping that Bulldog is a Barling, that would be nice!
@rsuninv. I'm sure it will be! It's already pretty light as it is!

They all are really. The Meer is a big pipe, and it's only 40gr.

I wondered! Then I assume you got a bargain with that one. It looks very nice and hopefully will turn a nice shade of yellow.

Get a jewlers loupe and read the nomenclature on the bulldog, it sure is a classic shape. All those stems and briar will shine up nicely, with a little elbow grease. Keep us posted!

I agree with the others, for that bulldog, get a loupe or a good magnifying glass, because it could be a Barling.

While i am still new to the brand names, i can see alot of potential in all of those pipes to be very nice looking once a little tlc is done. good luck on those great grabs.

I actually tried that while I was at the store. They had some powerful magnifying glasses, and they let me use one. Even then, I couldn't see anything more. The pipe is just to gunked up!

Half the fun is trying to figure out what you got!
I'm starting to look around at the flea markets just in case I run into something interesting as well.
Congatulations on your purchase!

It may be a bit of a challenge to get all the oxidation off that Playboy pipe stem without wearing out the logo.

I can hardly wait to see the "post" pics!

Really good score! I had the opposite end of the 'antique' experience yesterday. Spent 3 hours trawling; the only things I found were in a stand from a house clearance. They were all dirty and nondescript except a little panelled Canadian, which was interesting but so filthy it still had mortified tobacco in from the last smoke what must be years ago. I've worked in abattoirs but even I couldn't get my head around what must be in the stem of that thing! The logo was an R in a circle, if anyone knows that brand?

Thanks guys!

I'm nearly done with the bulldog, at least as much as I'm gonna do.

The only thing left is to do a cotton/alcohol treatment on it.

I tell you, it was tough!

Look for the "after pics" on a thread I'm about to post called "Well, It Is and Isn't A Barling!"

I bought an Austrian made meerschaum in an antique store in Cleveland like yours. The only difference is there is carving on the bowl. I give it pretty heavy use and it isn't changing color at all. My new one from the Gatlin-Burlier has already turned almost brown. I guess it is the difference in the meerschaum used or maybe how they treat it. Good score on all three.

lurch, I have a very old "Austrian" made meer(amber stem) and agree with you. Mine barely has color compared to my 2 yr old meer.
