Joe spalted hackberry is one of my favorite woods. I'd make sure its well dried before smoking though, I dont know exactly what fungus gives it that good spalt but I'd kill it in the oven before lighting up anyway !

Nice job Joe. I remember some of your other pipes. Have you been smoking them and are they turning color from the smoke?

The pipe looks cool. I am not sure how long it would smoke, since spalted wood is softer than normal for the same species. Winton

Thanks for the comments guys. As far as smoking i do try them out.

They do smoke harsh, especially the hackberry. I have gave about 6 away

and tell the people to display them. I never thought about sterilizing.

A very good idea.

I have done 2,one out of pecan and 1 out of cherry, those 2 smoke real good.

They are a full bent stem. I said that this one would be the last but I found 2

more sections of Hberry. Will use a stem out of another pipe made. This one

is some way-out thinking. Poker bottom type but will be built on stand and a

bell shaped bowl-bent stem.

The flask I also tooled and the knife i also created.
