Any Pipe Clubs or pipe smokers in the Allentown, Reading area in Pennsylvania. Give me a shout.
I live in Bethlehem but don't know of any pipe clubs in this area. I think the closest clubs are in the Poconos and Philly.
I know this is an older thread, but Cigars International in Hamburg has a large selection of pipes and a pipe tobacco blending area. Lots of places to sit around and enjoy a smoke, if any of you are still interested. Going to hopefully pick up a new churchwarden there this week.
Good info, Dutch, thanks. And welcome to the PM Forums!
Hey, thanks for the info on Cigars International. I'm on 78 frequently and saw the billboard proclaiming that it is now open. I'll give it a shot.
Jeff: Wingenroths is in nearby Lebanon, PA and is one of the best shops on the East Coast. Outstanding tin selection, always some good estates and the owner (Mel) is a real gem.
Allentown has the self-proclaimed "largest cigar store on the East Coast". Their door sign says "pipes" and they have a big pipe sign. But alas, not a pipe item to be found inside. Too bad, one of the nicest lounges I've ever seen.
New pipe smoker here. Originally from Allentown, living in Jim Thorpe. The Wooden Match in Bethlehem, a cigar bar and is pipe friendly. Apparently there is a Club Lounge in the work there. Great food, beer, and live music.
Cigars International in Hamburg just started a Pipe Guild last month, there was about 20 people who showed up. They're tying to build the group to get more pull with all of the manufacturers, so if you're interested at all I'd check it out. The next meeting is Monday 2/18 at 7pm. It's a free group and they offer discounts for all guild members too.
I just stopped by yesterday. They had exactly one tin each of Dunhill MM965 and Balkan Sasieni. I wish they'd keep a bigger stock of those two. I did enjoy an hour of smoking in the upstairs lounge area.
Thanks carbz13 for the heads up!
Anyone else make it to the guild meeting last night?
Nope, I had to work 3rd trick. Of course CI is a stones throw from where I work lol. "life and the railroad don't mix!"
I'm from the Bethlehem area and have been contemplating putting together a pipe club. If any of you are interested let me know. C.I has a great pipe guild, but really, who has time on a Monday night to drive all the way up to Hamburg...I know I don't. If any of you are interested, let me know, and maybe we can get something together, even something small to start. I figure the Wooden Match would be a great place to meet up since it is smoking friendly, plus great food and drinks. Let’s see what kind of feedback we get, and then we’ll go from there and figure out the logistics.
"You might find that smoke blown out cleared your mind of shadows within. Anyway, it gives patience, to listen to error without anger" (J.R.R.T)
Sean, I'm interested and I like the Wooden Match idea, I love it there. If you are on the mailing list, they just sent out a announcement that they are accepting applications for the club lounge on the third floor. Lots of cool things happening there as well.
I did see that, it is a great place, relaxed, and one of the only decent places to smoke...if you’re not looking for a shot and beer bar like the OBT or Joes In any case We got one, how many more of you Brothers of the Briar out there want to form up a pipe club here in Bethlehem!
It's still a bit of a drive for me, but I'd be willing to try and make some meetings.
I'm in Hanover Township, so I can be there in 10 minutes. CI no longer owns the Wooden Match but as far as I know nothing has changed re smoking policy.
Yea they do not own it, but that's neither here nor there; policies are the same and actually it's doing much better and no one seems to mind the pipe smoke either. Getting there, so that’s about three now, and I have a few here. Are weekends good for most of you?
Right now weekends are not good for me. Not sure in the future, my schedule is unpredictable... I will try to make it when a day is set.
I think the Wooden Match would be thrilled to have a pipe club get together at their establishment. Heck they might even start selling tobacco if there is enough interest!
Tell me more about this "wooden match"?
We have a club that meets every Thursday at El Humidor in Wilkes Barre. The last Thursday of the month we can be found at Ash in Plains twp just up the road. The club is called PIPE, Pocono Inter mountain Pipe Enthusiasts. PM me with any questions........
Search the wooden match on Facebook. Updated often with specials and events.
martiniman, the Wooden Match is in the old train depot in downtown Bethlehem, by the Lehigh River.
Weekday afternoons evenings are good for me except for Tuesdays.I'm retireso I have some flexibility. I'll watch this discussion for what you guys decide and will try to make it.
Thanks papipe guy, i know the place. If there is a meeting i would make the trip down.
My wife and son could entertain themselves shopping for a while.
I heard you were trying to get to WB at one time for the PIPE meeting, offer still stands.
Gents, having talked with a few of my conspirators I am thinking we could meet maybe every fourth Tuesday of the Month at 6pm.... Thoughts?
Well, that's the one night I can't make it. I teach guitar lessons at the local community center from 5:00-8:00 PM. I could be there by 8:30 safely if that works for the group.
How about Mondays...?
It seems lately I've been off Mondays, so that's cool with me.
Ok New tenative date, every fourth Monday of the month at 6pm...? Discuss!
Monday is OK for me. Just confirm the date.
CI has the Guild on the third Monday, and I want to keep up with that. If we keep it the fourth, I should be able to make a few of em.
Is this on for tomorrow or are we starting in March?
Sounds good to me.
We will make this official. First meeting of this pipe club will start at the end of March on Monday the 25th at 6pm at the Match. Depending on the amount of folks we have for this first event, we'll most likely sit down stairs. I'll post a reminder as the date nears closer.
Excellent. We can share a few bowls and come up with an innovative name for the club.
Perhaps I will try to make it, about an hour drive for me.
Cool! Should be a good time!
Thanks for setting this up.
I should get there between 7 and 8pm.
The 25th is coming up, how many guys are planning on coming?
Hmmm - I see a favorite ffishing spot close by.
I'm still planning on attending.
See you all next week!
I'm definitely going to try and make it.
Guys, I have a business trip and will be leaving for Nicaragua, but please, still show up and have your meeting. It'll be a start and just keep us all updated on here.
Reminder that the 3rd Pipe Guild meeting is tonight at the CI store in front of Cabelas in Hamburg. Erik Stokkebye is supposed to be coming with samples of his blends.
Are we still on for the Wooden Match next Monday, 3/25?
Great time last night at the CI pipe guild! I really enjoyed Mr. Stokkebye 1931 flake.
If there is one other fellow pipe smoker at the Wooden Match next Monday, I'll be there.
Yeah, it was great to hear his story. I ended up getting two of the 1957 tins- very tasty.
I'll be at the Wooden Match at 6:00 PM. Hope to see others there.
I'll be leaving from Ephrata, so I'll be there around 7pm.
Looking forward to meeting you.
I see the weather forecast is predicting 4-6" of the white stuff. This may change my plans tomorrow.
Since it's supposed to be a beautiful spring day tomorrow (gag), I doubt I'll be able to make it...
If anyone is going to show up, please let me know. The Wooden Match is only 10 minutes from my house. Otherwise, we'll hope for April.
I won’t be able to make it, just got back from my business trip to Nicaragua, so I unfortunately have to play catch up today. Keep us posted on the meeting though, if you are in the area and weather doesn't get to nasty, please show up and make an appearance! Let's make the first meeting a good one and all who show up, think of a name for our brood of misfits. Hopefully this works out and we can make it a regular thing.
I'll be there! Hope others can make it, weather permitting.
Good evening everyone,
Are we still meeting on Monday 4/22?
I'll be there Monday evening.
OK guys, April 22 or 29? alplhaflux and I are OK for either date so let us know.
up to you guys, I'll be working unfortunately
Anybody else have a preference on a date?
Alright, let's meet on the 4th Monday of the month.
So, this Monday 4/22 is our 2nd meeting.
Hope many of you can make it.
I'll be there between 6:30 and 7:00pm.
Hopefully this time we should not have to deal with SNOW...
Hey, turns out I can make it tomorrow evening. I'm confused as to where the meeting is held - CI in Hamburg or another shop?
OK, now I see from the other thread that the meeting is at The Wooden Match in Bethlehem, see you folks tomorrow evening.
Great, guys. I'll be there at 7:00.
I'll be here in the office toiling away, have a pipe for me, I'll be there in spirit.
Next Pipe Guild meeting is on May 20th at the Hamburg Cigars International.
Shoot, coming back from FL on that day...another time.
I guess the next Wooden Match get-together is Monday, May 27 for those interested.
I'll definitely be at the pipe guild again, not sure if I'll be able to make the wooden match meeting since it'll be Memorial Day.
