I've got a new three-stage air cleaner (nylon pre-filter, electrostatic, carbon post-filter), which has new filters in it. The stated lifespan of the carbon filter is 3-6 months, depending on usage.
I only run this thing while smoking a pipe, a few times a week. Any advice on how often to replace the carbon filter? I doubt I can get away with adding up the one hour smokes to get an effective in-use lifespan of three months. Google tells me there are about 730 hours in a month. If I smoke 5 times a week, that's ((730*3)/5/52)=8.4 years until I put three months of active use on this thing.
So, the lifespan of this carbon filter is somewhere between 3 months and 8 years. Obviously, I'll replace the filter when performance starts to degrade, but does anybody have practical experience they can share?
Thank you!
