Here they are. The 499 is from Marty Pulver. I did a cleaning and resto on the 498 (resto #60) and man was that stem and mortise nasty. The 1453 had not even been broken in but I did have to de-oxydize the stem and remove a load of stain from the mortise and airway. I really want to get a better grade of the 1453 but this one smokes just fine for now.

Thanks. Nope, all original. I try not to mess with the finish on older pipes unless they are beyond saving.

I've got the #498 bullcap, but as an Extraordinaire. I've been searching for a #499 for a long time now. Great pipes. Nothing beats a classic English cut. You have a nice trio there.

Very nice, two of my Holy Grails there! I have a 499 Extraordinaire and I just bought what the seller is saying is a 283 Extraordinaire, but the stamp (and shape) looks like 498 to me. It arrived today and awaits my restoration this weekend.

Looks like a 498 to me too but from what I've read, the 283 and the 498 are very similar shapes. I can't really see the difference in the two so I would be more than happy with either one. Glad to hear you got the match to your 499 Al!

All three are good smokers so far, I've still got a little way to go before the Royal Guard is broken in so I'll reserve final judgement on it. The one that shines though is the 298. I just had one of the best smokes of my life with it and some Esoterica Dunbar.

Thanks. I think it's all correctly named Comoy's and some of us, including me, just get lazy. As always I could be wrong.
