Then there's lacrosse, slowly gaining in overall popularity, but gaining rapidly among kids who have teams/clubs/schools where it's played. At least that's the story in California.

My other two playoff teams won today. The Hurricanes and the Avalanche both won on away Ice. The Bunch of Jerks won both away games in New York and the Avalanche split in San Jose.

I can't believe the bunch of jerks are up 2-0. What a crazy playoff year.

How about them Canes! The two empty netters at the end may make the final score seem like they didn't have to fight as hard as they did but it was a tough game. Hope they can keep this energy up!

With their back-up goalie to boot! No way the Islanders can come back now, history is definitely not on their side.

Yeah, my boss is a huge fan and was at the Carolina game last night. He could barely hear me this morning. I mean, those guys are so wrought with injuries it's kind of hard to believe. Rooting for the home team hard! This town is in a bit of a Hurricane fever right now and it's great!

I just walked away from the Chicago Pipe Show to watch the Blues game. I don't know how I'm gonna get away from my exhibitor's table Sunday afternoon for game 6.

No, I'm actually from Chicago (CHicago ILlinois Lucky is the screen name) but I did not grow up with any hockey fans. I lived in St Louis from 08-12 and became a fan of the team and the game through friends I made there.

I dug it up to be gracious to The Blues. Well fought, well played. The Sharks ran out of gas three games ago. Their game five was atrocious, and tonight's shellacking is no surprise.

Now I revert to my second hockey team (chronologically). Go Boston!

Rooting for the Bruins, but I figured the Blues would come back strong with their game in Game4. Very close game that the Blues got the bounces for because of their hard work which has basically been their season since January. Should be a fun Game5 back in Boston.

As an impartial penguins fan, gotta be rooting for the Blues here. They have never won, first of all. But more importantly, I can't bring myself to root for anything involving Brad Marchand. He exemplifies everything that is wrong with the sport of Hockey.

I'm a Golden Knights fan and I'm rooting for the Blues for two reasons. (1) They were in last place on January 3rd and (2) they beat the Sharks.

    I agree about Brad Marchand.

I always root for the Knights. Not just because of their story last year, but they have/had a few former penguins on their roster. Most notably MAF, who exemplifies everything that is RIGHT with the sport of Hockey, and was instrumental in 2 of our Stanley Cup Championships.

There is a reason they call Marchand "The Rat".

Rooting for the Blues, they played a hell of a game last night. If Big Z is out, the Bruins could be in trouble.
I like the story of the little girl, Lelia that roots for the Blues (has a rare disease), so I'll pull for them.

Best of three now, should be fun.

Broken Jaw shouldn't stop him. That's what masks are for. He's probably begging the trainers to let him play as we speak.

Blues have never won a Stanley Cup championship. Part of the original expansion in 1967.

I was a fan of the Bruins before the Golden Knights came along, so rooting for the Bruins. I would like to see the former Knight Perron get a Cup though. I think this is his third go around with the Blue note.

I have to think with it just being a broken jaw BigZ will be in the lineup for Game5 in Boston. Those guys will play through just about anything. Bergy played Game6 in 2013 Finals with a separated shoulder, two cracked ribs, and a punctured lung.

I'm a bit of an oddball when it comes to hockey. I love the sport so much I'll find someone to root for just about no matter who is playing.

Ditto. Usually I watch every game of the entire playoffs. With a newborn at home I've only been able to see every other game or so. Lawn is getting pretty long though......

Yeah, my wife's pulling for them because of that O6 transition thing & underdogs. Me, I prefer the Bruins, but at bottom it's really just all hockey. By the time it winnows down to this level it all boils down to who gets tired first &/or makes the first mistake. I know if the Blues win it'll be oh-hell-party-night like the Red Mile in Calgary, though! -laugh-

People who roar about how tough it is to play in the NFL need to watch 20 minutes of playoff hockey. Respect, folks, respect. Getting hit in the head with an inflated pigskin ain't spit compared to 6 oz of frozen rubber going 80 mph....

Hard to imagine that even goaltenders used to play without them, eh? Google a picture of Terry Sawchuk's face and you'll see why they started to, hahaha.

Hell yeah, awesome win by the blues. Can't believe they endured how hard boston rallied in the first. Incredible work by Binnigton tonight, and a great job by the blues capitalizing on their opportunities. Always stoked to see a team win the cup for the first time. How Binnington doesn't end up with MVP though, I have no idea. Superb goaltending by a rookie, not to mention most playoff wins alltime by one. Bettman sucks ass.

O'Reilly didn't allow 4-5 goals in a coupla games this series. Binnington did. A fantastic effort tonight from him, but the Smythe is for _series_ MVP.

I only lived in St Louis for 3 years starting about a decade ago. I ended up not being able to stay, but it's a terrific city and the attitude of it's fan base made a hockey fan of me. Validated now, I'm really proud of and very happy for all the folks down there who've been waiting for this.

Good to see honors going to the Midwest, and to Missouri in particular (my wife's home place and where I went to college, among others). Little old Raleigh won the Stanley Cup years ago, and it was a blast. I like that the Blues started the season as an unlikely choice. In terms of personnel, Canada wins the cup most years.

Especially since he got benched in the finals. He's a wunderkind, that's for certain. Boston simply barreged him in the 1st period, no other word for it. I was surprised to. see it be a shut-out. Even though I was for the Bruins, StL definitely earned the Cup, absolutely no question. I'm really happy for them. NOW, Bolts, about next season.... -laugh-

Lots of Blues fans here in Saskatchewan.

Tyler Bozak, Brayden Schenn and Jaden Schwartz all hail from Saskatchewan, so there are a lot of proud family members here right now.

The great thing about Binnington is that he's been in the minors since 2011. Talk about maximizing your opportunity!

This is a classy move by the Blues, and made me smile last night. I also chuckled at the Blues dropping the F-bomb repeatedly when hoisting the cup, then the network finally caught on, killed the mic and apologized. Seeing a winning players hoist that cup is the most glorious moment in professional sports.

Ugh, as a Boston-area fan, that was brutal. That was probably the easiest playoff route to the cup that they'll ever have ("easiest" being a relative term, as it's never easy), and they lost a series they should have won.

While I think the Bruins had a more talented line-up, the Blues had a plan to shut down the Bruins best forwards, and they pretty much executed it through the series. Virtually no five-on five-production from the Bruins top two lines, and that was the series.

but the Smythe is for _series_ MVP.

This is not correct. Unlike other sports, the Conn Smythe trophy is awarded to the MVP of the entire post season, not just the finals series. Ryan O'Reilly is the obvious second choice, IMO, and a well deserving player, but a rookie goaltender setting a post season win record and maintaining a save percentage above 90 against the offensive powerhouse teams they faced is pretty incredible. And personally I think there is something to be said for bouncing back from adversity (aka, a bad game, which all goalies will have over the course of 4 series). Especially for a rookie.

Goaltenders almost always get overlooked for the Conn Smythe anyway, just like the Heisman, offense is always the darling.

Sadly, yeah. I guess people think because they have the Vezina they don't need to be considered for anything else.

No worries! Not trying to be a dick, just pointing it out. You are certainly not wrong about O'Reilly or Binnington, your opinion on that point is completely valid (and a good one)! It just happens to differ slightly from mine

I am a little biased though to be honest. Having played both center and goaltender, I found one of those positions to be decidedly harder, both mentally and physically, hahaha.

This is a classy move by the Blues, and made me smile last night.

Very cool indeed. The gentleman holding the cup for Laila in this photo, Colton Parayko, played college hockey for the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Go Nanooks!
