I just did My 1st hand made pipe. 100% by hand no power tools at all. It's made from apple wood, took 20 hrs. to do and 10 bandaids. Hope it smokes better than it looks.
I still can't get pics to come up.

Looks as though you followed the wood's cues as to what it wanted to become.
Whenever I get around to making my first one I can only hope it turns out so well!

Thanks all, I did it all by hand, no power tools used at all just a small hand saw, rat tail file, sandpaper, 3 diff. drill bits, and a vise grip to hold the bits. Forgot some band aids too.

Hey, It smokes! I put in a load of baccy, lit it up and it smokes good the draw is a bit tight, I knew I'd have to drill the air way a bit bigger I started it small, can make bigger hard to make smaller but all and all a good smoke. The bowl chard up good and Jasongone I did pull out the stinger.

That is a cool shape. I just got two blocks of cherry. Im going to try and do my first free hand out of cherry then move up into briar. Im hoping to make a horn shape. Will post pics through the process.

I know what I need, smoke, I can't recall the last time I tasted it....Gandalf in the mines of Moria.

"we shall have to share pipes, as good friends must at a pinch'....'I keep a treasure or two near my skin, as precious as rings to me. Here's one: my old wooden pipe. And here's another an unused one...He held up a small pipe with a wide flattened bowl, and handed it to Gimli. 'Does that settle the score between us', said Merry. 'Most noble hobbit, it leaves me deep in your debt."

Nathaniel, go for it. My theory is there are no mistakes making art. Just running design changes!
