Loves me them Tanshells. It's hard to find impressive specimens because the Sardinian briar they were made from rarely blasted as dramatically as some of the softer varieties (like Algerian), but they're out there. You just have to look harder. (Making the job a little easier is knowing that many collectors think Tanshells, on average, are Dunhill's best smokers.)

1962 was the year Detroit's cars lost their fins, the Cuban Missile Crisis happened, and John Glenn orbited the Earth in Friendship 7.

Also, no one outside a seedy club in Hamburg, Germany had the slightest idea who The Beatles were.

Wow, that blast puts my '65 127 T to shame. Almost the exact same shape but smaller of course. Great pics.

Fantastic. Wouldn't you love the opportunity to speak to one or two of the carvers from that era, who worked at Dunhill in the heyday? Lost to time.

Beautiful. Love the LB. If I was limited to one pipe, it would be my LB.

I have two '62 Dunhills in my collection. Both group 3 pipes. One is a 148 saddle bit bulldog the second is a 47 tapered bit bulldog. It to has a wonderful blast. Thanks for the insight on the briar used.
