I came across a 1959 Dunhill Pot on ebay. 1959 is my birth year and I guess every serious piper should have a birth year Duhill. This one was a bit ragged. I'm pretty confident in my pipe skills so I like them that way. A pipe that appears to be beat up scares off a lot of bidders. Seems like someone tried to clean off the rim char and ended up using sand paper. I had no choice but to go smooth rim. Everything else is original. It's a good smoking pipe.

I also love those beat up pipes, they do scare away the competition. That is a great way to get into a birth year Dunhill, particularly in your year, those don't go cheap!
I like the polished top and prefer that on my blasted pipes. Additionally, it is easier to keep clean.
Tell us about restoring the dot please.

Little irregularities and your smooth restoration job give this Dunny a lot of soul.

Nice job on that shell. Love the colors coming through. I believe I remember Steve Fallon (Pipestud) mentioning that a little dab of coffee from the cup wiped on the rim of a sandblast will lift off the tobacco residue. I've tried that with good success.

Pots are one of my favorite shapes, and this pipe certainly is a winner. Absolutely conservative and classy!

Happy smoking, and congratulations on the birth year Dunhill. BTW, why is Dunhill considered a misspelling on a pipes' site? Also, the computer tells me that latakia is misspelled. Just funny.
