Not having the stamp "Own Make" under the BBB diamond on the shank means the bowl was made in France and shipped to England for finishing and a stem, but who's counting?

Once in a while, nothing but a small, full bent pipe will do. The End. It's a wonderful road trip pipe... nothing swinging around, fits in a pocket, no breakage worries.

I've never taken this out where it hasn't caused a flurry of interest, even among non-smokers. It's like an English Bulldog puppy or something.

    46.6 grams, 4.5" long

Nothing wrong with it being turned by a French carver. They were the most experienced and skilled at that time. But, they were Gallic. They would sometimes refuse to produce and they would just give you an ironic shrug. Then they would wander off, have a bit of fromage, some grapes and good bread. Maybe they would return and carve for you something brilliant. Maybe they would not.

Cool BBB! I have one almost exactly like it, but a little smaller (probably about 30g).

Here with a Group 3-ish sized bulldog:

    Jesse knows.

Nothing wrong with animated artwork being made in California by a Californian. They were the most experienced and skilled in the world. But, they were Hollywood artistes. They would sometimes refuse to produce and they would just give you an ironic shrug. Then they would wander off, have a bit of fromage, some grapes and good bread. Maybe they would paint some cells for you that were brilliant. Maybe they would not.

I have a late 30's Kaywoodie in a similar size. I agree it is quite handy.

    Oui! C'est vraiment vrai!

Thanks to Dave for his post; I'd not seen this thread before.

The difference, it seems, between the "artistes" in France and H'wood is that the former would sullenly slip a Gauloise into their beaks and light up, and the latter would fire up a vintage Barling..

    Above: très drôle!

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

George, sweet looking classic. Pipes like that are what a pipe should look like. I see so many new carvers making pipes that have no resemblance to a real pipe. I bet most if not all, could never duplicate that pipe.

    Nice pipes

My ex-wife told me it's either me or your pipe collection. I considered that a win-win.
