Just listened to this for the first time and liked it a lot...an early sample from Patty Griffin's forthcoming new album.

Brian, lovely performance, yet very powerful.

And now, for something completely different...

Here is Stochelo Rosenberg's Trio with Greek bouzouki virtuoso, Michael Paoulis, in an incredible live performance of Django Reinhardt's tune, "Minor Swing"

Gillian Welch........ I named my 2nd daughter after her....... good stuff!
Many years ago while working in Appalachia I saw a sign on a back road that read "Ralph Stanley's Music Festival" with an arrow. Of course I dropped everything I was doing and immediately made my way to Ralph Stanley's home where the music festival was taking place. Among the folks playing was Gillian Welch who sat at a picnic table with me for a bit. Lovely lady but I was too shy to ask about her music. I'd have liked to ask about her lyrics "God move on the water Casey Jones".

That whole area was a hotbed of great music. At one point I was chatting with a nice man. After some idle chit chat I discovered he was Mike Seeger who was down there to attend a thing at the Appal Shop in Whitesburg. As I was talking with him some girl came up and rudely interrupted our conversation giving a disgusted look at me in my cutoff jeans and paint splattered ball cap. I excused myself but as I was leaving I heard her tell him she was a graduate student in cultural music or something like that. His response was "why would you go to school for that?". Ha!

Last Sunday was the 60th. anniversary of "the day the music died."

Frankie Sardo was the opening act for the ill-fated "Winter Dance Party" tour, that included Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, The Big Bopper, and Dion

Here's one of the songs he sang on the tour, written by his brother Johnny, "Fake Out"
