Thanks; that's a real view from the ground. Looks like the water didn't play favorites with floods all over town, and power outages along with it. I can't decide if the hurricane burglar is the essence of evil or of stupidity.

Your flood advice was 100% right on, and I have paraphrased it to a number of people.
Among other things, electricity is conducted poorly by water... so you can come right up on a short before it begins to electrocute you, at which point your muscles contract. We're going to find more of those in the coming days.
It is tragic watching much of a once-beautiful city being destroyed.

When night falls

she cloaks the world

in impenetrable darkness.

A chill rises

from the soil

and contaminates the air

suddenly...

life has new meaning.
&&
Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

Friend at church has family in Houston, all flooded out. They know of whole family drowned, so feel lucky.

When you say your prayers for the Houston area, please remember of the rest of south & southeast Texas which was also impacted. I just returned home from delivering a truck load of food and supplies to the small town of Vidor just 20 miles across from the Louisiana border. We drove through water up to 24 inches deep in spot to get to a church that a staging point for people who have flooded out.

Good on you Pappy, my Son who lives in Dayton TX almost flooded, inches from that, now they are assessing Exxons plant damage, then Exxon let them go and do some flood repair on men who has flooding, he's cutting Sheetrock out of a fellow workers house. Big thing in that area is water to drink, and Gasoline, most men commute and supplies are dwindleing .

pappy, be careful. You never know what's below the surface with flooding. Or overhead for that matter. My wife went home to Missouri to cover the Mississippi flood in 1993 for her newspaper on Long Island NY, and the guy driving a boat didn't know the hazards and went under downed power lines at speed and nearly beheaded my wife. She was very lucky, got stitched up at the hospital where she was born. It sure isn't like boating or driving in any normal situation. She told the ER doc, "I was born in this hospital." He said, "Well, you won't die here, at least not today."

mso489 - we were, my nephew was driving and he lives in that town. My family has lived in and around SE Texas since the 50s and none of us can remember it flooding like that.

I saw that a number of small towns got hit as well. They are in our thoughts at this time. Mayor declared an evacuation for most of the city today, reservoirs are still emptying and so floodwaters are still present, current estimate is 2-3 weeks of this. In the meantime, the sun has come out and temperatures are high nineties on the ground. We have yet to see the inevitable mosquito swell. Police are deployed to slow down looting, but there's still a lot of raiding going on at night.

Yes, and am experiencing the joy of floods.
Also the joy of a 12 gauge and the thought that I can erase the face of anyone raiding my house or that of my neighbors.
