@ Nate - It sort of does look like a crazy fossil. I dont usually have a plan when I carve I just sort of let the wood and the dremel decided.
@ Warren - :) You are correct sir I did ask. I appreciate the honesty, this one definitely isn't for everybody.
@ Davet - Its a monster pipe with a fairly small stem. Dimensions are L 6 1/2" x W 2 3/8" x H 3 1/4" with a 7/8" bowl diameter and 1 3/4" depth.
@ fishnbanjo - Thank you! Those pipes would look good next to each other.

My first thought is that it looks too heavy even to clench while you light it. I don't find the massive, somewhat formless look of it, and its rustication interesting, though I guess if a person found that kind of rock-like mass attractive, this pipe might have some draw. Just not my thing.

As a pipe, I don't like it. As a piece of sculpture, I love it. It has many areas of intrigue and keeps the viewer captivated. The rustication making the cornucopia on the left is very nice. I find the segments on the other parts to be lacking. The view from the top is very nice as well. The appearance of a left hand grasping the bowl is very creative.

...in the eye of the beholder and such. I look at pipes like that and wonder what was the maker thinking? Should he be trusted with his own affairs?

My first impression as the image loaded was...hmmn, that's eye catching, rugged, reptilian, pre-historic and very interesting.

That you made it is even more interesting!

I see a similarity with rattle snake 'rattles' and also sort of a bird of prey talon.

Personally, I love it. I'm so much more a smooth pipe kind of guy. But your pipes are always unique. You have a creative mind and you put that creativity into your carvings. I think that's a wonderful thing. If you were to walk into a room full of pipe smokers, your pipe would be the object of conversation. I love it, keep doing it, and I know I've said it before but you've come a long way from that log with a stem you posted on here when you first started carving.

Not my style, but very interesting.
Just goes to show by all of the previous comments, taste is subjective.

:) You guys are too funny! Some of these comments really cracked me up. We lost almost everything in the fire lol but luckily I did save this one pipe lmao. And yes I am aware that I probably should not be trusted with my own affairs. ( thats why the wife runs the business and I do the carving lol but she may have to start doing the carving soon :nana: ) I completely agree this is a love it or hate it pipe. When I was working on it I just totally let go of any plan or reasoning and just had fun.
