That is NOT Mr. Cook's work.
A pipe like this, it alway comes down to the re-finishing/re-staining, and from the pictures, in my mind the jury is still out.

Squishy word, repair... is topping cosmetic or repair? (Which he did spectacularly well---making it "invisible" is extremely difficult for several reasons.)

Having seen enough of Anthony's work, I would not have come to that conclusion.

I'll just get right down to it. The pipe looks like, from the pictures, that it has been re-stained, and most of the underlying contrast seen in the original finish has been washed out.

Okay, that's what I was missing. Just looked like carbon and tar was removed like this.
