The history of Gallaher's is very well documented out there, so I'm gonna bypass the text and just deposit a humongous image bank.
In the near future, a more comprehensive historical overview may appear over at

http://dutchpipesmoker.wordpress.com/
Arno invited me to help him compile data and information on these olde UK tobacco houses with the aim of storing them in a more permanent format, as he has already been doing with his excellent blog most artfully by doing some fine writing and indepth research into the dense tangled arena of UK tobacco history.
Now for the gaga gallery.

Thanks for the great comments everyone!
Arno,

sadly my Google-Fu is not yet up to the black belt level, I had noticed that thread a while back, and foolishly thought it'd be around forever, and failed to download the great image of Richard Todd surrounded by Gallaher Girls with a huge pile of Condor packets on the counter - now it's just a big blank 'tinypic' expiration icon, perhaps that image will never be seen again - and you remind me how important it is to grab an image when you see it, everything is ephemeral and fleeting.

I forgot to add one of my favorite Gallaher images,

the actual factory photos are fairly scarce.
Here's a young Gallaher Girl with tins of Rich Dark Honeydew about to be vacuum sealed at the Lisnafillan Ballymena factory, circa 1956.

Love these posts. Too bad these tobaccos aren't around for the most part any more, I bet I woulda liked most of them!

Again, what a fun post. I have to admit, though, when I first saw the title I was expecting a lot of pictures of watermelon smashing with a sledgehammer. Then I said "Oh, Gallaher, not Gallagher . . ."

There is an interesting article on Gallaher's in the February issue of "The Pipe Collector". It was written by S. John Taylor, I always find his articles interesting.
Also - I'm moving this to the History section.

Sean O'Casey smoked Condor!
...and in Plug form too!

:!:
Thanks for that Pitch,

I'm unfamiliar with his work but I'm gonna check it out,

he's often spoken of in the same breath as Yeats and Joyce.
I really like that he continued to use an ancient typewriter even into his later years...

In another letter, he mentions Condor Twist. Talking about Ulster, he notes that although they lack poets and playwrights, they make ships, ropes and good tobacco:
I'm smoking some of it at the moment, Gallagher's Condor Twist

I've heard many say we're living in the "golden age" of pipe tobacco, with never more variety and quality available to the average piper. That may be so, but after looking at this thread, I declare we've fallen into the dark ages of tin art. Beautiful, evocative stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Top show as always misterlowercase. Is that Richard Todd (the dambusters actor) surrounded by all those condor girls? Absolutely love the old rich dark honeydew tins, the one depicting a couple of Victorian gents in a parlour. The interesting thing about those is they printed the inner face of the tin lid as well. So although most of the tins available now appear very tatty, open it up & the image is as good as new! They also have the base corrugated for the easy strike of a match. Handy (& very pretty) tin to have.

Lovely stuff as usual Brother, I don't believe I have ever seen the Ad for the Plug, or maybe I have and it just seems a bit hazy due to the magnificent vintage Tobacco I am still under the influence of! I thank you from the bottom of my Heart my friend for including me on this very special occasion! Will say more about this at the appropriate time! Kindest Regards,
Eric
