Great design, dramatic but functional. It has nice balance and flow, visually. I don't know if you could have foreseen the flaw in the shank. Sizing up the raw wood is always tricky, I think, but the longer experience perhaps the better you can detect these tendencies, however the repair looks excellent. I'll look forward to seeing others.
