I could add for consideration Dan Tobacco Independence tin and John Bull pouch. The Dan is a higher quality tobacco blend, while the John Bull has no bite with mild Latakia but distinctive and very light Cavendish flavor.

Many thanks for all the great tobacco blend suggestions! I will definitely give several of them a try very soon!

This is the BEST web forum for pipe smokers I am aware of and I have found most participants are very gracious and helpful.

Again, thanks for all the ideas on blends to try! Hopefully one of these blends will be "it" and end my endless search for "the right blend"!

All the Best to my Brethren of the Briar-

Lane HGL -- just try it, you'll thank me later.
Some of the other blends listed might beat HGL in terms of complexity or nuance, but you mention room note being important -- HGL is the only one that gets approval from my wife. She'll let me smoke anything I want, but boy do I have to hear about it. With HGL, she tells me it smells like marshmallows roasting over a campfire or something along those lines.
