I tend to clench the stem of my pipe with my teeth. Obviously over time, my teeth mark up the stem. So my question... What's the best way to replace a stem? Should I go through the manufacturer of the pipe? Is mismatching the pipe and stem frowned upon?

Some manufacturers will take the pipe back and fit a new stem, although I believe it’s somewhat expensive. There are several pipe repair people who can fit you a replacement. I utilize the services of fellow member Anthony Cook for this (Cook’s Fine Pipeworks). Mismatching a stem only matters if it matters to you. It will decrease the value of the pipe if you ever wanted to sell it, but other than that, if it works for you, then it works!

Try hooking the button over your lower teeth and bite down with your uppers with just enough pressure to hold it in place. Barely a mark on any of my pipes.?
