I've had a Parker Bulldog 73 for some time now. My question is that there is a metal filter stuck in the shank. I don't know how to remove it. IT IS REALLY STUCK!. I can smoke it, but it bothers me because the air flow is not to my liking. The filter (for lack of a better word) inhibits the air flow. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

I'm sorry, it's stuck in the stem, not the shank. It's been a long day and it's only 1:35!

Yo Dan
I have a couple of 73s too, but neither has metal. If the freezer trick doesn't work, bring your 73 to the Lehigh Valley Pipe Club. DanC usually comes, and he's been a pipe maker and restorer for 15-20 years now. Or come to Morley's in Philly next week: we have several other pipe makers and restorers there, and the total years of experience accumulated by some of our members numbers hundreds of years.
