So my mom passed away at the beginning of the month. She was suffering and it is better, but I was still a mess. So I spent a stupid amount of $$ on Pipes and Tobacco. Here is the overall haul:

My condolences, pal. All my best to you and your family. It looks like you've a fair few smokes in her memory ahead of you. Nice haul.

My mother checked out in 2003. Things will become easier, it will just take some time. Just take things day by day. Sorry for your loss, brother.
Nice haul though. Goodness, that is a lot of tobacco. I have never tried the Royal Cajun, what its like?

Thank you for you thoughts! My moms side of the family has familial amyloidosis in it. The familial sort is based in the liver and it basically warps proteins and deposits them in your body. You have gradual loss of use in whereever they land culminating in death by stroke or heart attack (whenever the proteins finally build up in those two areas). It is supposed to be a 50/50 chance of having it, but 13/15 people on her side has tested positive. It is degenerative and terminal. It was never really noticed because it doesn't usually kick in until late 60's. The Mayo clinic in WI is the only place that is studying this disease.
My mom was pretty far down the road. She hadn't walked in 8 months and needed help in ALL aspects of daily life. My parents made enough to disqualify them from medicaid, but couldn't afford a caregiver. My Dad really had it rough for about the last 6 months. I live 2 hours away and work one weekend a month, but was going down there 2-3 weekends just so dad could get some rest. My brother and sister in law were there a lot more, since they are closer.
The doctors said mom's heart was healthy, but she was having random nerves just activate and cause her pain 24/7. She was on Morphine and Methadone to control the pain. My dad was liquidating all their savings and holdings so they could qualify for medicaid to get a care giver in to help him. We were all planning for 12-18 months of slow withering death.
My mom was a strong, willful woman. She never lost her faith in God and she always grabbed life by the nuts and did what she wanted. So when, out of the blue, she keeled over dead this month, I swear she must have said, "God, I am done suffering, take me now!" and he obliged.
So we are all sad, but it is hypocritical since if she was here she would be in so much pain. I am in counseling just to help process and i am keeping an eye on my son.

So sorry about your mom. I recently just lost both of my parents so I know what it is like to be a mess. Stay strong and remember the good times.
