I played with all the methods. Quite honestly none of them were worth the hassle in my opinion. Try the cube cutting or fold and stuff, but at the end of the day I found that rubbing out was so much easier and hassle free on most any flake.

Hoosierpipeguy what is 'food and stuff' out of curiosity? Is it the action of eating a burger at a truck stop or are you a victim of the dreaded auto correct thing?

I believe Food & Stuff is where Ron Swanson buys his meat and also

I think this answers your question.

you have to play around to find the method that works for you. fold and stuff works for me most of the time, but lot of hand goes into it. for me, light tends to go out often, never seems to burn evenly, and generally requires lot of messing around. after playing around a bit, first thing i had to do was find a way to make it fit into the bowl nice and loose. this means, i need to guess the proper dimension of the folded flake so it will fit properly. treaming and all that. if bowl is large, might need 2 flakes or little less. then after folded lengthwise, will need to be treamed or twisted off so it won't stick out too much. and if it feels too tight, need to be pulled out and thinned. by this time, you flake might not hold the shape to be stuffed as you wanted to. but i'm sure with practice, you will get it. worse comes go worst, you can give nice rub and smoke away like you are doing now.

might have said this already but I often pull the flake apart into rough strips that I leave long and just sorta lightly stuff them into the pipe. It's kind of between a fold and stuff and breaking it down. The thing is the char light makes a big difference in how many relights you have to do. So I char tamp then over light let it cool down a bit and then it seems to burn perfectly the rest of the bowl.

Welcome BengalSliced. Like AnotherBob, my method uses breaking down and fold and stuff. This seems to allow me to keep some of the integrity of the flake or crumble cake and pack to fit the bowl without too much hassle. That said I am still using different methods from time to time.

Cubing works great for me. I usually cube into different sizes, some quite large and let them dry for awhile that way. I use kitchen shears as someone on the forum suggested.

I prefer this to ribbon.

I do smoke lots of flakes but must confess in most cases I prefer rubbing out those sort of flakes which contain burley tobaccies whereas with Vapers or straight virgina types where possible I prefer folding&stuffing, yet narrow chambered bowls seem to benefit when tobacco is folded
