Just finished a smoke in the Cutty with Davidoff Flake Medallions on the maiden voyage, absolutely divine smoke.

is the little piece of wood on the bottom of the bowl just for looks or does it serve some kind of functional purpose? I've always wondered about that.

It's a patent and dates from 1940 and they are scarce.

The nubbin hails from the days of clay pipes which was on of the places one could hold the pipe as the stem was shortened, the nubbin on this pipe works the same and it is also a sitter balancing on the nubbin and end of the fishtail bit.
