I've heard generally good reports on Mr. Brog, especially on his pear wood and briar pipes. I'm not

sure pear wood, if smoked regularly, holds up as well as most briar does. I do enjoy my 35-year-old

briars, bought new all those years ago; I call them my one-owner estate pipes.

I'm a big fan of pear wood, especially for straight Virginias. Among my pear woods I have a Brog, the Kentucky No.43. It's been a good pipe. I like the large bowl and wide, oversize stem - though don't expect vulcanite on these pipes. I've used this particular pipe for aromatic English blends due to the very wide bowl and have always enjoyed my smokes with it. I would certainly buy another one.
Overall my experience with pear wood has been excellent and I think they are very good pipes for the money.
