I logged on today and discovered that I had finally achieved the coveted status of Preferred Member. I now excitedly await the arrival of the special package Kevin sends to all who achieve this exulted rank. Several things stood out in the journey to this milestone that I think I would share. First, when I clicked on my avatar and arrived at the page I discovered that I had spent 3802 hours, 39 minutes on the forum in the pursuit of this goal, the equitant of 158 days or about 45% of the year it had taken to reach this lofty status. It’s alright though as I’ve been in counseling for OCD for six of those months. The doctor has advised me that the enticement is really worth the compulsive effort it has elicited. I thank Kevin for recommending this fine clinician, who specializes in on-line services. You simply log on, state your concern and within minutes you will receive a very soothing reassurance.

Secondly, I noticed a significant rise in PAD and TAD attacks during this period. The cause is still uncertain but the doctor has also advised me that those impulses can sometimes be triggered by unknown outside sources and assured me that they have no connection to this web site. The fact that there is a continuous rotation of beautiful pipes and all manner of tobaccos available from sponsoring retailers and that these resources can be acquired with a click of the mouse is merely coincidental. He suspects there may be an underlining “hording issue” at play. Until we pinpoint the real problem he has suggested I continue without interruption, citing the possible consequences of withdrawal. His logic seems impeccable.

Lastly I have noticed a strange stimulation when reviewing posts by SS Jones, Dave G and other talented restorers. That of course had led to a continuous survey of Ebay in search of prospects that would allow me to follow in their footsteps. My doctor has advised me this pursuit that will greatly help in the identification of my underlining issues. He’s recommended I continue this practice as well. He also recommended a source for needed supplies but suggested I advise them Pipesmagizine.com. was the source of the link. He cited professional concerns about being identified as the person responsible.

Much of remainder of the year was consumed in following the rich supply of links to be found in the posts of other members. Indeed I have folders of them just so I can reread them at will. Knowledge is a wonderful thing and I can’t seem to get quite enough. Here my doctor has advised me that this quest is quite admirable and requires absolutely no action. He has compared it to the time required in pursuit of a Ph.D. and assured me this effort is reasonable.

So in conclusion I want to thank Kevin, not only for awarding me this wonderful title but for connecting me to the specialist that has put my concerns to rest and allowed me to continue unabated for yet another year.

Actually, how it works is that you have to send each of us 8 oz of our favorite tobacco.
At least that's what I was told when I acquired the purple.
Yep ... same here. PM sent with favorites list.
LOL. Congrats!

Whahoo! However, let the record show that I have twice the membership time than you yet less posts. Therefore I must not be as bad as you. I feel better now.

Congrats of purple! I snuck in last month... oddly I made purple status having spent -51 hours, 41 minutes on the site. So clearly when I hang out here I gain time. I'll have to remember that next time I am late for something.

fmgee, I'm glad to see I still have hope to attain the purple even though I'm more of a lurker than a poster.
deuce26: purple status takes 1 year and 500 posts so you have the time covered. If you just get all chatty for a week or two you'll be there.
