Hey everyone, I am looking on picking up a pipe for a friend. Just to set some guidlines on it, I would not like to spend more than 70 bucks. He doesnt really smoke a pipe often, but I know it would mean alot to him if I got him one. I really just want something for him to keep before he moves back home for him to remember me and my pipe smoking.
I want something that fits his personality, to put it in the simplest terms, he is a southern gentleman. He is from Virginia and very proud of it, he is very up beat and very classy. I think something classic looking but maybe with a modern flare.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
John

Personally I think stanwell makes some pretty nice looking pipes and they arent much more than 70$. But from what I here you can't go wrong with a Pete

If he is Southern, I think a smokindragon Country Gentlemen Custom Cob is in order. Priced just right too. Every time he looks at it or smokes it, he will think of where it came from.

That's another great idea! All of the guys on the forum would be able to make a great pipe for your friend.

Tastes in pipes vary so much.
Has he ever admired one of your own pipes? That might give you an idea about what style he would like.

Personally, I'd say the best bang for the buck at that price and the best selection as well would be a Sav. Possibly a Clark's Favorite, based on your description.

I agree with Brian... give the Savinelli's a look. Some economy priced pipes but still of good quality.

And I agree with topd. Under Sav's economy there on cupojoes, look at the Duca Carlo #111. To me, that's a classy pipe. Only $48, which will leave you a few bucks left over for a couple of tins of tobacco, and some pipe cleaners and a Czech tool. If you're going to set him up, set him up right. :)

I love my Stanwells. They really seem to stand out from the pack as the best bang for the buck smokers I own. Savinelli is a second, for me.

Check out the Sebastian Beo pipes at SmokingPipes.com. Right around the $80-$85 mark and mentioned recently in a SmokingPipes newsletter. Pretty handsome, traditional shapes with a twist. A member on another board just bought one, who typically buys only British makers and is very pleased.

This last one is my favorite of the ones I've picked. I just picked ones I liked that fit your price, all the Savs are a meer coincidence. :puffy:

STANWELL FEATHERWEIGHT is my recommendation and right in your price range.
