EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) - Bob

I just bought a zeppelin pipe from ebay and it looks great

seems the previous user didn't smoke very much with the pipe
i watched few videos on youtube how to smoke the zeppelin

then i tried to smoke with it until the tobacco can't light up anymore
i found that there are still a lot of un-burnt tobacco inside

and i try another time and get the same result, the flame just can't reach too deep into the pipe bowl

i am very disappointed,

is zeppelin a failed design?

or am i just too greedy to pack too much into a zeppelin pipe??
here are some pictures

They were designed to be a safer smoke while riding in zeppelins.

As for your question jamestang, could be an issue of too moist tobacco, or improper packing. What are you trying to smoke in that beauty?

The model in chasing embers video is a little better for a deeper burn as you can unscrew the very end mid smoke and dump ash. You can also remove the end cap and tamp. Perhaps trying to pack it super tight would help more like a cigar on that version.

Oh, I fondly remember those pipes! They gave new meaning to the term "smokin a fatty".

James,
I sort of jumped on the Led Zeppelin joke with my post yesterday and want to apologize to you if I appeared to be flippant or making fun of the Zeppelin pipe.
In my opinion a ribbon cut tobacco like Dunhill Nightcap will be difficult to keep lit in a pipe designed like the Zeppelin, especially if it is tightly packed because of the lack of oxygen deep into the tobacco chamber the pipe design presents. I would suggest you try a Krumble Kake cut tobacco like Mississippi River and load the pipe loosely for better oxygen levels. Even a plug would allow more oxygen in the chamber. Tamping as you smoke (and maybe ash buildup also) will still be a problem because of the pipe design. And try smoking your tobacco as dry as you can get it, almost to the stage of being crunchy. If you try Mississippi River, try opening the tin up & just replace the plastic lid 2-4 wks before you want to smoke it.
Just my opinion & everybody has one but let us know what you figure out.

That is so awesome!
Once again, something that I didn't know existed has become something that I desperately need!

Looks more like something that takes batteries and is a women’s best friend.
