I don't normally do things like this, and this is going to be a bit of a rant, so bear with me, but I'll try to keep it as short as possible.
Back in May, my girlfriend started having very bad hip pain. We went to the doctor and they couldn't quite figure out what was going on. They sent her to an orthopedic doctor who took an MRI that showed nothing. Then they wanted to do a second MRI, which revealed a cyst 3 inches in diameter that was pressing directly on her sciatic nerve. Her job deemed her unable to work and forced her to take an unpaid medical leave of absence. Over the course of 3 hospitals, 6 different doctors, and a battery of different tests, we came to find out that she not only has the cyst pressing on her nerve, but she has a rare nerve disease that doesn't allow her nerves to function the way that they should. We learned this at the doctor today after she had an EMG done yesterday, and they told her that it isn't fatal and is treatable with medicine, but it is uncurable. She was really eaten up over the whole ordeal and is very upset. She is in constant pain and has a hard time doing much of anything. She hasn't been able to work, the insurance company told her that she isn't entitled to the disability she has been paying into for a year and a half, and her job told her that she should be able to collect medical unemployment through the state. When we contacted the state, they told her that being on medical leave meant that she was still employed, but if she was unable to work they couldn't give her benefits. As I said, I don't normally do this, and I'm sorry to do this here, but I had to vent to someone. She is the absolute sweetest person in the world and has nothing but kindness and good in her heart and I really hate to see her like this. She tolerates my smoking really well and never has an unkind word to say about me picking up my pipe, so she is really a saint. Every pipe I have lit since she went on medical leave has been in her honor, and maybe if you guys could shoot a little good mojo her way it would make her feel a lot better. She actually watches over my shoulder pretty regularly when I post and knows a few of the guys by name, so I feel like she is kind of a part of this place too. Again, sorry to do this here, but I needed to vent. For the record, here is a picture of us on her last birthday. Thanks guys.

Man that sucks.

I know all too well how incurable deceases work. Having one myself I know times will be hard for a while. Please stay strong within yourselves and for each other. Get advice ASAP regarding your financial status.
Things will work out. I will show this to my wife as she often reads it over my shoulder also.
We will both smoke a few bowls today in the hope of good luck and a much better situation for you both

Postive thoughts and prayers your way.. Hopefully all will work out in her favor, so sad that she has to endure both her illness and trying to jump through hoops for financial help. Like Six said, seek advise and will smoke a bowl in her honor....

I'm sorry to hear that pipe novelist. I don't know what I would do in that situation. All I can say is that I will be praying for the both of you. Will medicine at least make the pain go away?

Will medicine at least make the pain go away?
She is already on pain killers for the cyst, but as far as medicine for the actual nerve disease, they told her that there are several different kinds of medicine that they can give her, but all of them are drugs that alter brain chemistry in order to trick her mind into thinking she has less pain and that the problem isn't there. She has to go see a specialist within the next month and the specialist will have to do a couple of more tests to tell us exactly what we are looking at and what they can give her for it.

Hopefully the specialist will have more information. If you ever need someone to talk to feel free to PM me. I have to go to work at the moment though.

Thanks a million man. It really means a lot. She was doing better as the day went on, taking in the reality of the situation. We've been told that the specialist she is going to see is one of the best in his field when it comes to this sort of thing, but we have to drive an hour and a half to get there, and he has a long waiting list. Hopefully everything will come together in due time though.

The annals of history are filled with prognoses that turn out to be wrong. Let's hope and pray that, in spite of what the doctors have said, she gets better!

I know about hospitals I am a cancer survivor ,they can get you down, looks like with all the frustration they have started to pin point her problems, some comfort , but her biggest comfort will be you, I remember waking up after finding out they could not take the cancer out (Radiation) to my wife and three children's faces and knew it was bad news, saw it on their faces, Family, I can"t say it enough, you are her Rock, she is fortunate to have such a kind and careing man there for her, you and her will be in my thoughts. sounds like a lawyer might be better able to sort all of this out. if she was on 'leave' the her insurance with her employer should be covering the tab. you will be surprised at how they all respond when the questions are on from a lawyer instead someone they can keep spinning. good luck
